Research Summary: Martha Corey was different from the other women accused in the Salem witch trials of 1692. She was an upstanding member of the puritan church. She was the wife of Giles Corey. Her accusation as a witch demonstrated that Satan's influence had reached to the very core of the community. Ann putanam had accused Martha Corey of worshiping the devil while her husband was away. Martha Corey denied all that was charged upon her. She said they could not prove that she was witch. She was sent to the Salem prison that afternoon. After she was in custody, The children never complained of her afflicting them as she had before.
Later on in the future near october the colonial governor stopped the witch trials and all chargers were dropped on the remaing accusers. Ninteen victims from the witch trials were hanged. One man was crushed to death under stones and four died in jail awaiting there trial. Her husband was the man who got crushed under the rock.
